Deviation O-002 is a kind of bright yellow viscous gel with a density similar to that of silica gel, and a smell resembling linseed oil. The Deviation is extremely sticky and will adhere to most surfaces. Deviation O-002 has the ability to self-replicate, although it is inert in its natural state. Almost any non-biological material that comes into contact with Deviation O-002 will gradually be engulfed and turned into gel, becoming part of the Deviation itself. Solids are engulfed at a rate of - mm every 24 hours, liquids are engulfed almost instantly, and gases are engulfed extremely slowly. Deviation O-002's main trait is its effect on humans who ingest it. When a human individual consumes part of the Deviation, they will be overcome by a compulsive need to eat as much of it as possible, believing that Deviation O-002 is their only source of food. Physically separating the affected individual from the Deviation for 8-10 weeks at a minimum can reverse these symptoms. During the 8-10 week separation period, the affected individual is likely to suffer moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms. According to chemical analysis, the gel does not contain flavor molecules that can be detected by human taste buds, and should therefore be 100% tasteless. Despite that, affected individuals consistently describe Deviation O-002 as "delicious." Physical examinations suggest that the human gut cannot digest large quantities of Deviation O-002, leading to digestive disorders and in severe cases. As a collective unit, Deviation O-002 is a large mass of amorphous gel, and shows a level of intelligence equivalent to that of a 3-year-old border collie. It is able to understand simple commands, and is generally affectionate and friendly towards humans and other animals. The Deviation enjoys being petted and will often "playfight" with researchers. If the Deviation accidentally causes harm to a playmate, it will cease activity and flatten itself into a disc shape, apparently expressing remorse. Currently, Deviation O-002 is secured at Site and directly overseen by , a Senior Researcher. has provided Deviation O-002 with a pair of plastic fake eye sticker toys (categorized as O-002-A) and a black rubber tube (O-002-B). The deviation appears to treasure these objects and uses them to convey its emotions. has successfully trained the Deviation to obey a range of commands, including changing its shape, and engulfing specified objects. Researchers have not yet found a way to eliminate the negative effects of consuming any part of Deviation O-002, however. Securement Procedures: Do: Deviation O-002 should be secured in a securement chamber of Level III or higher. The chamber should be lined with silicon dioxide-carbon dioxide aerogel, and all objects inside the chamber should be replaced every 2 working days. Staff should wear psychological shielding equipment and a protective suit of Level III or higher when interacting with Deviation O-002 or entering its containment chamber.
